I had originally drafted this as a Statement of purpose(SOP) for my grad admission back in 2017. I thought I can re-use it here to give the readers a sneak peek into my background & overall career trajectory.
I passed out from Calcutta Airport English High School with 82% in the 10th standard in 2003. In the summer break, I completed a course in Computer Fundamentals including MS-DOS and Windows from the British Institutes Kolkata and developed a liking for Science and Technology that eventually led me to take up Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry as my major subjects in high school. Having seen my father as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, I was greatly passionate about the practical application of electrical and electronics subjects in our modern life and would often end up fixing broken fuse and other electrical issues at my home. I secured 83.7% in my twelfth grade and ranked second in a class of 50 students. Later I joined Techno India (one of the top private Engineering colleges under the West Bengal University of Technology) in the field of Electronics and Communication and secured a DCGPA of 7.95 out of a scale of 10.
In my undergraduate, I hated few subjects like Circuit Theory & Networks, Signals and Systems, Microprocessor and Microcontroller, VLSI Circuits & Systems. I was more inclined towards later courses like Data Structure & Algorithms, Computer Architechture & Organization and Database Management System. I also took up training in C, C++ and Unix OS to further enhance my programming skills. I took up the 4th National IT Aptitude Test and was among top 15% (85 percentile) nationwide. I spent much of my time outside of my college overseeing our family-owned food business which was in its initial years that transformed an introvert person like me into a more social being.
I joined TATA Consultancy Services Limited as Systems Engineer Trainee at Kolkata and underwent a 3 month training on Unix, SQL, DBMS and Java. Later, I joined an offshore-delivery account for one of the leading credit-history provider in the United States and UK as an Oracle Database Administrator and began my journey as a DBA. In my 11 years’ experience, I have worked across major platforms for clients in North America, Europe, Asia Pacific and across all major industries. My day-to-day work includes software installation, upgrades, migration, patching, backup, recovery, cloning, capacity planning, troubleshooting, performance tuning, Disaster Recovery, High Availability, Load Balancing.
Given the confluence of my personal and professional interests along with knowledge gained in the master’s degree in the field of Information Technology, my goal is to share my knowledge and the concepts. When I have gathered enough experience and skills, I plan to work as an independent consultant or launch a consulting company of my own providing innovative solutions to business problems. I am currently attending Master of Science in Information Technology program from Kelley School of Business at Indiana University to deepen my expertise and broaden my perspectives. I am sure my personal and professional experience will enrich my readers.
